The Sony Is Killing On-Demand Video in the Playstation Store
The streaming video business is booming, and this makes it easier for some companies like Sony to use tons of content, making it less attractive to manage digital storefronts, so at the end of August, Sony’s affordability was disabled Has been doing. -Demand video in PlayStation Store.
In a new blog posted by the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment for the video Vanessa Lee, Sony plans to close the rental of the film and TV show and shop at the PlayStation store, which will come into effect on August 31.
Explaining its decision, Sony stated that “the tremendous growth of PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment streaming services on our console,” Sony saw that shift and added on-demand content to the PlayStation store Decided to support shopping. All the company’s consoles and ports including PS5, PS4, PS Vita and more.
Thankfully, anyone who owns previously purchased content will still be able to use their shows or movies after August 31, so you won’t be able to buy or rent any new titles.
For those who already get their video content from streaming services like Netflix or HBO Max, this may not be much of a change. However, for those who prefer to purchase digital content, this change may force you to turn to other on-demand content stores.
If you have already invested in Apple’s ecosystem, you can install the Apple TV app on your PS4 or PS5 to access the contents of Apple’s library. However, for those used to purchasing content from Google, things are a bit tricky as the Google TV app is not yet available on the PlayStation console.
Instead, you’ll need to download the YouTube app on your PS4 or PS5, and then go to the console’s General Settings, find the Users and Accounts tab, and then select links with other services to link your Google account with YouTube . Application on your PlayStation. Once you do this, you can buy and play content purchased directly from YouTube via Google TV (formerly called Google Play and Movies).
Alternatively, if you are not a fan of Apple or Google, you can also rent or purchase content from the Voodoo app, which is also available on the PlayStation console.
Unfortunately, for those who prefer to purchase content from Google, unless Google adds support for Sony’s console to the Google TV app, things are going to be a bit cloony. But at least when Sony snaps the ability to rent or buy on-demand video directly from the PlayStation store this summer, you still won’t have options.
We strive to provide the best entertainment experience for PlayStation fans, and this means developing our offerings as customer needs change. We have seen tremendous growth from PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment streaming services on our consoles. With this change in customer behavior, we have decided not to offer movie and TV purchases and rentals through the PlayStation Store until August 31, 2021.
When this change takes effect, users can still purchase movie and TV content on their PS4, PS5 and mobile devices through the PlayStation Store for on-demand playback. We thank our fans for their continued support, and we look forward to further enhancing the entertainment experience on PlayStation.
